About Open Innovations

Open Innovations was formed in 2014 thanks to a unique data ecosystem that was evolving in Leeds involving local authorities and new data portals such as Data Mill North and Calderdale DataWorks.

We work openly and collaboratively in 4 key areas - Innovation, Data, Projects & Events.

Open data is data that anyone can access, use and share - we work with others to help publish, share and learn from their data. We build tools for data manipulation, visualise data to help demonstrate ideas and explore and analyse datasets to deliver tangible outcomes.

We use the web as it was intended and at pace - our website has become a place where people can confidently publish early versions of or updates to their work, allowing them to 'work out loud' and be in a position to invite constructive feedback from peers beyond their usual network. Everything from a project outline to the final outcome is published openly, accompanied by accessible ways of adding contributions - open to all. By being a non-profit, non-aligned, neutral convenor and publishing in the open like this conversations can be started easily without barriers to innovation.

We have an engaged & interested ecosystem of sponsors, clients and associates who all share the same mission led approach of convening, connecting & collaborating and being open means we measure ourselves openly - our dashboard is visible to all & constantly updated.
