National Supported Internship Day
National Supported Internship Day will take place on 27th March this year. To help celebrate the day in Leeds two events have been organised:
Leeds Inclusive Employer Network
Wednesday 27 March, 8.30am to 10.30am at Page Group, 5th Floor, Kings Court, 12 King Street, Leeds, LS1 2HL.
We would like to extend an invitation to employers across Leeds that have Diversity and Inclusion high up on their agenda. or would like to become more inclusive. The Leeds Inclusive Employers Network, LIEN, has over 220 employers signed up to share best practice, hear from those with lived experience and discover how to better recruit and support neurodivergent individuals within their own workforce.
LIEN meets at host organisations across the city on a quarterly basis and companies including KPMG, Clarion Solicitors, Answer Digital, Leeds City Museums, Sky Betting and Gaming, Abstract Recruitment and more have generously hosted breakfast meetings where inspirational speakers share their experience, deliver training and lead workshops and discussion groups. The sessions start with a light breakfast and an opportunity to network with like minded organsations across the city.
At the last event we collaborated on employers own experiences and barriers to recruitment and we will share findings at the forthcoming event.
Our Inclusive Employer community is ever growing, increasing your opportunities to network and our on-line community is growing so please do connect with and follow us on LinkedIn to see some of the work that is going on across the city.
Also, please do share the invite with colleagues and people within your network who may benefit from attending and contributing - they are welcome!
We look forward to seeing you on the 27th March!
Supported Internships Online Information Session for Parents/Carers/Young People
Wednesday 27 March 2024, 6:30pm-7:30pm - virtual event
An online information seminar for parents will take place to help explain what a supported internship is and who is eligible to do them. Hear from the organisations who offer internships in Leeds and from the interns themselves as they describe what they do.
What is a Supported Internship?
• A supported internship is a study programme where you spend one day a week at a local college and up to 3 days a week working with an employer doing a real job
• The idea is to train and learn how to do a job so that where possible the employer can offer you a role at the end of your training
• You will be supported at work by a job coach who works for the college and will go with you to help you where needed
• You could work in all kinds of different jobs from offices or warehouses to retail or hospitals and many more.
