Anchors celebrate graduation season

Each summer Leeds plays host to graduation ceremonies, celebrating the achievements of students across the seven higher education institutions in the city.
Leeds is home to around 80,000 students, including many who move to the city from overseas and other parts of the UK, and others who have grown up in Leeds and West Yorkshire and chose to stay local for their studies.
Wherever they’re from, graduation is a key milestone in their education journey and the city centre will be busy with graduates and their guests celebrating over the coming weeks.
Professor Peter Slee, Vice Chancellor of Leeds Beckett University and chair of the Leeds Anchor Network said: “These celebrations are a powerful reflection of students’ achievements and it’s wonderful to see new graduates and their families and friends making the most of these memorable occasions.
Graduation is also a reminder of the anchor role that universities and other education institutions play in Leeds. Students make a huge contribution to our city economy through the millions of pounds they contribute to our regional economy and the thousands of jobs that creates, and through their productive and creative contribution to our city’s highly skilled workforce”
